A learning program in Urban Planning but no Institute, so what? Consideration from an eternal horizon in Nantes
Une formation en urbanisme sans institut, and so what ? Réflexion à partir d’un éternel horizon nantais
Résumé
Nantes, an experimental laboratory for urban fabric in France? However, there is no urban planning institution, but a master’s degree, which is co-handled by academic actors and practitioners from the university and the school of architecture. Often contemplated, the institution remains an ever-lasting horizon that is never granted a concrete form. Anomaly or Nantes’ game (jeu à la nantaise)? That is the question asked by two professors-researchers, actors in urban planning training themselves. They tell a singular story, which thus addresses the specific tensions of urban planning training and invites us – as it is a horizon – to ask ourselves what could be an ideal urban planning institution.
Nantes, un laboratoire d’expérimentations de la fabrique urbaine en France ? Pourtant, nul institut d’urbanisme ici, mais un master en urbanisme et aménagement co-porté par des acteurs académiques et praticiens de l’université et de l’école d’architecture. Régulièrement envisagé, l’institut demeure un éternel horizon jamais concrétisé. Anomalie ou jeu à la nantaise ? C’est la question posée par deux enseignants-chercheurs, eux-mêmes acteurs des formations en urbanisme. Ils racontent une histoire singulière qui, ce faisant, soulève les tensions particulières aux formations en urbanisme et permet –puisqu’il demeure un horizon – de s’interroger sur ce que pourrait être un institut d’urbanisme idéal.
