The Research Institute on Contemporary Maghreb (IRMC) is a research center for humanities and social sciences with a regional focus, with its headquarters in Tunis. Founded in 1992, it is one of 27 French research institutes abroad (IFRE) under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and, since 2000, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, and the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) which is a mixed Unity (RSU 3077). A scientific council participates in orientation and evaluation of its activities. A Joint Monitoring Committee of the Franco-Tunisian activities of IRMC meets annually.
Humanities and Social Sciences
The IRMC shall contribute, in partnership with the scientific community including the Maghreb and Europe, development of research on the Maghreb. Its disciplines include: anthropology, demography, law, economics, urban studies, geography, history, political science, social sciences applied to the letters, philosophy and psychology, sociology.
Its programs are contributing in discussions of social sciences in a comparative perspective, at the regional and international levels. He holds doctoral programs, conferences, international seminars and conferences. It welcomes researchers, scholars and students from the Maghreb and from Europe, in cooperation with the institutions of the countries concerned.
Diffusion and Library
Its library is opened to a wide audience of academics, doctoral students, fellows and trainees. It enables on-site consultation of books and magazines (more than 28,500 books and 2300 journal titles). The development of its researches represents a catalog of more than fifty collective or authors publications , among various publishers (including its annual publication : Maghreb and social sciences).
The IRMC is currently led by Pierre-Noel Denieuil.
