L’apothéose du monde dans la politique positive d’Auguste Comte

In the Synthèse subjective (1856), Auguste Comte proposed to replace the astronomical conception of Earth by the religious image of Great Fetish. We seek to understand the appeal to fetishism by a scientific spirit. Comte considers that positive sciences have altered, in the name of objectivity, the emotional relationship between Western societies and their natural environment. They have "dried" (A. Comte) or "disenchanted" (M. Weber) our understanding of the world. Therefore it is necessary to emancipate science from religion. The challenge is how to re-enchant the world, how to make our planet lovable, without relapsing into theology. Comte rehabilitates fetishism because it combines the anthropomorphism necessary for heart and the determinism required for intelligence. Furthermore, this relative personification of the Earth, transformed in Great Fetish, allows Comte to denounce the oppression of the West on the East fetishist, especially Chinese.
Dans la Synthèse subjective (1856), Auguste Comte a proposé de remplacer la conception astronomique de la Terre par l'image religieuse du Grand-Fétiche. Nous cherchons à comprendre cet appel au fétichisme de la part d'un esprit scientifique. Comte juge que les sciences positives ont altéré, au nom de l'objectivité, le rapport affectif des sociétés occidentales à leur environnement naturel. Elles ont « desséché » (A. Comte) ou « désenchanté » (M. Weber) notre compréhension du monde. C'est pourquoi il faut s'émanciper des sciences par la religion. La difficulté consiste à réenchanter le monde, à rendre aimable notre planète, sans rechuter dans la théologie. Comte réhabilite le fétichisme, car il concilie l'anthropomorphisme indispensable au coeur et le déterminisme nécessaire à l'intelligence. De surcroît, cette personnification relative de la Terre, promue en Grand-Fétiche, permet à Comte de dénoncer l'oppression exercée par l'Occident sur l'Orient fétichiste, notamment chinois.
