Le don au sein de l'église protestante mâ'ohi de Polynésie française s'effectue à deux niveaux : à un premier niveau, le paroissien donne symboliquement à Dieu, à un second niveau, l'argent récolté est versé à la trésorerie de l'église et sert à couvrir les dépenses ordinaires de l'institution ecclésiale. L'évolution récente de cette collecte illustre les tensions entre, d'une part, l'appartenance communautaire liée à l'organisation territoriale en ‘âmuira'a et, d'autre part, une individualisation des pratiques et croyances religieuses. Ces tensions, particulièrement vives face aux tentatives de la direction de l'église de rationalisation des dons, soulignent une pluralisation de la signification du don. |

The gift of mê within the mâ'ohi Protestant Church : a diversification of the meanings of gift Within the mâ'ohi Protestant Church, in French Polynesia, monetary gifts consist both in money that each parishioner symbolically brings to God and in an annual amount transferred to the Church accountant and used to cover the institution's everyday expenses. The recent evolution of the annual collection (‘afaaura'a mê) shows tensions between, on one hand, community belonging organised along territorial subdivisions (‘âmuira'a) and on the other hand, an increasing individualisation of religious practices and beliefs. These tensions are particularly sharpened by the initiatives the head of the Church has recently taken in order to rationalise gifts. They underline an ongoing diversification of the meanings of gift. |
