Price Dynamics, financial fragility and aggregate volatility

Within a standard framework à la Arrow-Debreu, we investigate the dynamics emerging from the interactions of heterogeneous households and firms that are adaptive price setters and financially constrained. We show that depending on the stringency of the financial constraints the model can settle in two very different regimes: one characterized by equilibrium, the other by disequilibrium and financial fragility. We then investigate how the structure of the production network affects the emergence of aggregate volatility from micro-level price and financial shocks, hence providing a dynamical counterpart to recent results of Acemoglu and al (2012).
Dans un cadre classique à la Arrow-Debreu, nous analysons la dynamique émergeant des interactions de consommateurs et d'entreprises hétérogènes qui sont contraints financièrement et qui mettent à jour leurs prix de manière adaptative. Nous montrons que selon l'intensité des contraintes financières, le modèle adopte deux régimes très différents : l'un d'équilibre, l'autre caractérisé par des phénomènes de déséquilibre et de fragilité financière. Nous analysons dans un second temps comment la structure du réseau de production influence l'émergence de la volatilité macro-économique à partir de chocs micro-économiques. Nous établissons ainsi une extension dynamique de résultats récents d'Acemoglu et co-auteurs.
