The public space is qualified from its uses and its non-use. The meaning and signification we give to it are inseparable from its memory. Indeed, the environment can be influenced by complex historical and social settings, materialized in the memory embodied by the architectural heritage of a city. This paper discusses the elements related to the memory and the urban atmosphere of downtown Fortaleza, one of the capitals of the Northeast of Brazil, by presenting a short documentary entitled 'A Casa das Memórias' ('The House of Memories').
