Le Quotidien municipal dans certaines sources littéraires. Introduction

This volume is the fruit of the collaboration between two French and international research teams: one at Paris, under the UMR 8210 ANHIMA of the French National Research Center (CNRS), co-directed by Clara Berrendonner and Mireille Cébeillac-Gervasoni (EMIRE program), the other at Clermont-Ferrand, under the University Blaise Pascal History Center "Space and Cultures" (CHEC), coordinated by Mireille Cébeillac-Gervasoni and Laurent Lamoine (under the program "Local Powers Since Antiquity). Municipal Praxis in the Roman West presents the work of three years of research (2008-2010) on the functioning of local towns in the western early Roman Empire, with points of comparison with the Greek world and in medieval Europe. This study presents the results of the 2009 meeting of the EMIRE program, dedicated to the importance of literary sources in the understanding of local administration in Clermont-Ferrand (2008-2010) dedicated to the relations between local powers and sanctuaries and the place of the written word in municipal practices.

Dans sa dernière configuration (2002-2009), le programme EMIRE (Élites Municipales Italiennes de la République et de l'Empire), dirigé par Mireille Cébeillac-Gervasoni (directeur de recherche émérite, UMR 8210 ANHIMA), s'est intéressé au quotidien institutionnel des cités en se fondant sur un dépouillement systématique des sources épigraphiques (2002-2008) puis littéraires (2008-2009). La première partie de La Praxis est consacrée aux résultats du dépouillement des auteurs antiques. Malgré de nombreux écueils (diversité et imprécision des sources), les contributions présentées démontrent le bien-fondé de la démarche, d'autant plus légitime que les chercheurs ont été attentifs non seulement au lexique institutionnel précis quand il existe dans les textes, mais aussi aux atmosphères politiques. Les sept études permettent d'envisager toutes les situations : informations ponctuelles sur certaines situations locales (Federico Santangelo à partir d'Appien, Valentina E. Pistarino à partir d'Ovide et Antonio Pistellato à partir de Pline l'Ancien), rapports avec l'empereur (Silvia Maria Marengo à partir de Suétone, Michel Christol et Antonio Sartori à partir de Pline le Jeune) et réflexions sur le " bon gouvernement " (Alfredo Valvo à partir de Cicéron).
