While most westerner historians consider the council of Florence (1339-1340) a true effort toward Unity, an orthodox historian wrote in 1991: "For many orthodox people, the council of Florence is the point from which the schism between catholic church and orthodoxe church is really achieved.' (N. Lossky) This article studies the reasons why the Greeks rejected the Union fulfilled at the council of Florence.
