Abstract: The aim of this paper is to undertake some key elements provided by the Genetic Criticism (fr. "Critique génétique") about the treatment of modern manuscripts, and more specifically the object it defines as "rough draft" (fr. "brouillon"). After a brief introduction, we will discuss the difference between "modern" and "ancient" (or "medieval") manuscripts (§ 3), the concept of "rough draft" as "semiotic object" (§ 4), the relevance of a genetic approach on Saussure's unpublished notes (§ 5) and, finally, the different editing possibilities of the aforementioned manuscripts (§ 6).

L'objectif de cet article est d'examiner certains éléments clés fournis par la critique génétique sur le traitement des manuscrits modernes, et plus spécifiquement l'objet qu'elle définit comme " brouillon ". Après une brève introduction, nous discutons la différence entre manuscrits " modernes " et manuscrits " anciens " (ou " médiévales ") (§ 3), le concept de " brouillon ", en tant qu'" objet sémiotique " particulier (§ 4), la pertinence de une approche génétique sur des notes inédites de Saussure (§ 5) et, enfin les possibilités d'édition différentes des tels manuscrits (§ 6).
