Trois langues d'enseignement en compétition : bulgare, français, hébreu
Résumé
From 1862, the Alliance Israélite Universelle, created a network of schools to promote the westernization of Oriental Jewish communities they considered latecomers. The Jewish communities of Bulgaria were included. Within this context, either the Bulgarian, or French, or Hebrew languages were inclined to become the main if not the only languages of teaching in the primary schools of these communities. The case of the Sofia Jewish Community Schools for boys is here an example that enables to understand both how teaching of (and in) these three languages evolved and under what circumstances one or the other language became more important, or less important, or became again more important.
