The aim of this paper is to identify the process of control regarding the start-up of production phase, and particularly the cost – time – quality triangle. The exploratory case study carried upon a French auto maker revealed that two processes are used: the organizational learning and an efficient economic monitoring system. . Based on the framework of Simons (1995), our study reveals a complementarity between diagnostic control system and interactive control system. However, the joint control of QCD triangle remains relatively impractical.

Cet article présente le résultat d'une recherche exploratoire, sur la gestion conjointe du triptyque coût – délai – qualité lors du lancement en production d'un nouveau produit, menée auprès d'un constructeur automobile français. Des outils et des démarches favorisant l'apprentissage collectif ont été introduits par ailleurs depuis plusieurs années. En nous appuyant sur les travaux de Simons (1995), notre hypothèse est que les systèmes de contrôle interactifs ne garantissent pas la performance. Un système de contrôle « diagnostic » demeure incontournable. Néanmoins, la maîtrise conjointe du triplet QCD demeure relativement irréalisable.
