Why is overeducation such a lively and controversial issue? There is a variety of reasons... In any democratic society, in which meritocracy is supposed to prevail, a tight fit between degrees and jobs is both equitable and efficient. However, this issue i) is difficult to document with unquestionable indicators; ii) can be dealt with on the basis of different level of analysis; iii) may be also, to certain extent, a value-laden issue...
