Effects of Globalization on the Spatial Structure and Property Markets of the Paris Region

Résumé

Until the end of the 1980s, the urban hierarchy in France was in coherence with the spatial structure of the industry. However, from 1990 onwards, the Paris region gained a growing share of economic activities and population. The widening gap between Paris and the other regions went together with a growing fragmentation within the Capital region itself. The polarization of land markets revealed the strong contrast between the Western suburban neighborhoods where new business districts located, and the Northern industrial zones which concentrate a major part of social housing estates.
