Norbert Elias claims the legitimacy of the concept of a « national habitus » in a provocative way. He was conscious he was breaking a taboo thereby because the National Socialists exploited the national characterization of peoples. We will try to understand why Norbert Elias gave this dispositionalist concept a central importance and what meaning he attributed to it. Therefore we will question the role that the heritage of Heidelberg's sociology plays in his work.

Norbert Elias revendique la légitimité du concept d' « habitus national » de façon provocatrice, conscient qu'il lève un tabou, l'idéologie national-socialiste ayant abusé de la caractérisation nationale des peuples. Nous chercherons à comprendre pourquoi Norbert Elias accorde une place centrale à ce concept dispositionnaliste et quel sens il lui attribue. Ce faisant, nous interrogerons la place dans son œuvre de l'héritage de la sociologie de Heidelberg.
