By being described ironically as a patient examined by doctor John Lewis, Louis Althusser expressed in 1973, in the answer that he made him, the power for which his word, from everywhere waited, could hope. This power, however, was not only battling against registers multiple and different which forced the interventions to be economic in order to be decisive. It was also, as Althusser's lesson of Jacques Rancière establishes it with rigor, a positive political functioning, the description of which we could propose. The big ambition to seize again in the time of its elaboration the dialectic of the Marxist work and its alive history had given way to a homogeneous "lesson" in the practical aims of the party and in the most traditional education of the ignoramuses by a scholar exercising the police of the words and the ideas and disqualifying the big gossip and the disorder of the free revolts. The text returns on the impact of this criticism in the context of 1968 as well as on the orientations which it confirmed in the Jacques Rancière's later work.
En se décrivant ironiquement comme un malade examiné par le docteur John Lewis, Louis Althusser exprimait en 1973 dans la réponse qu'il lui fit le pouvoir que sa parole de toutes parts attendue pouvait espérer. Ce pouvoir cependant n'était pas seulement aux prises avec les registres multiples et distincts d'une intervention qui se faisait d'autant plus parcimonieuse qu'elle se voulait décisive. Il était aussi, comme La leçon d'Althusser de Jacques Rancière l'établit avec rigueur, un fonctionnement politique positif dont on pouvait proposer la description. La grande ambition pour ressaisir dans le temps de son élaboration la dialectique de l'œuvre marxiste et de sa vivante histoire avait fait place à une " leçon " homogène aux visées pratiques du parti et à l'éducation la plus traditionnelle des ignorants par un savant exerçant la police des mots et des idées et disqualifiant le grand bavardage et désordre des révoltes libres. Le texte revient sur la portée de cette critique dans le contexte de 1968 ainsi que sur les orientations qu'elle a confirmées dans l'œuvre ultérieure de Jacques Rancière.
